TxDOT awarded Faroviol a $1.47 billion design-build contract for Grand Parkway Segment B1 (nearly 15 miles) and the $157 million Katy to Cyprus widening moves into construction this summer, creating roughly $1.6 billion in active Grand Parkway work over the next five years. That means many job sites, crews, and devices that all need real-time connectivity.
Construction was the third most targeted industry for ransomware in 2025: average ransom demands jumped 15× to $2.33 million and incidents now cause about 24 days of downtime -enough to lose preferred bidder status on long projects. CinchOps, a Katy-based managed IT provider for small and mid-sized construction firms, offers affordable connectivity and security solutions; visit Cinchops.com for a free construction IT review and subscribe to the Houston Tech Brief.

Houston businesses are wiring AI agents into invoicing, support, and scheduling so the agents can take real actions -send emails, approve payments, and process refunds.
Last week attackers drained about $200,000 from an AI-controlled crypto wallet by posting a Morse code message that the AI translated into a payment instruction; no keys or software were stolen, just an overly helpful assistant acting on untrusted input.
The root cause is architectural: prompt injection and excessive permissions. Fixes include limiting agent capabilities, capping spending and approval limits, requiring human sign-off for high-impact actions, treating all uploads and messages as untrusted, and logging every action.
CinchOps reviews AI exposure for Houston SMBs (10–250 employees), inventories AI tools, maps authorizations, and implements guardrails to prevent costly mistakes. Visit cinchops.com.

The Q1 2026 GuidePoint Security GRIT Ransomware Report just dropped, and the numbers should have every Houston-area business owner paying attention. 2,135 ransomware victims posted on leak sites in just three months. The United States absorbed 51% of every attack worldwide. Construction jumped from sixth to fourth on the industry target list, with victim counts up 44% year over year and 22 separate threat actors hitting construction firms in Q1 alone.
In this episode, Shane Stevens breaks down what the data actually means for small and mid-sized businesses across Katy, Cypress, Sugar Land, The Woodlands, and the rest of the Houston metro, plus the five controls that block most of these attacks before they start.
What's covered:
The Q1 2026 GRIT Report headline numbers
Why construction is now a top-4 ransomware target
Qilin, The Gentlemen, and Akira: the most active groups of Q1 2026
NightSpire and the Fortinet CVE-2024-55591 problem
The real cost of a ransomware incident for a Houston SMB
The five-control defense stack every Katy business needs

BlackFog tracked 264 publicly disclosed ransomware attacks in Q1 2026. They tracked another 2,160 on dark web leak sites. Only 1 in 9 attacks ever becomes public. For Houston small and mid-sized business owners, the gap between what makes the news and what actually happens is the real story.
In this episode, Shane Stevens of CinchOps breaks down the BlackFog Q1 2026 State of Ransomware Report through a Houston-area lens. You'll hear:
Why manufacturing, construction, healthcare, and logistics took the worst hits in Q1, and why those four sectors anchor the Houston economy
What the 96% data exfiltration rate means for your business continuity plan
Why the average ransom demand of over $1 million is just the opening bid (IBM puts the total SMB breach cost at $4.88 million)
The 7.7-day negotiation window attackers now impose and what it should tell you about your incident response timing
How Shadow AI is creating a new exfiltration channel that 49% of employees are already using without IT approval

Houston-area finance teams are facing a new, highly targeted threat: AI-powered business email compromise that mimics real projects, invoices, and suppliers and can include voice-cloned voicemails that sound like your CEO.
The FBI’s 2025 Internet Crime Report shows BEC losses exceeding $3 billion in 2024, with 40% of phishing now AI-generated. Any AP team that processes invoices is at risk, and a single fraudulent wire can cause catastrophic losses.
The fix is practical: out-of-band verification, MFA on finance systems, and written procedures that survive staff changes. For a free security assessment, visit synchops.com/contact or call 2-812-69-6506.

A 2022 talk Shane Stevens gave to Texas A&M freshmen titled Winds of Change predicted that greater disruption was coming. Four years later, those predictions read underbid. This episode walks Houston SMB owners through what role compression actually looks like, why experienced operators now hold the edge, and what that edge means for the next generation trying to break in.

This episode explains four essential controls: patching workstations and servers, maintaining regular backups, testing backup restoration at least quarterly, and keeping one immutable copy in a separate location.
Implementing these measures would have stopped most of the 2,135 incidents tracked and significantly improved resilience against data loss and ransomware.

CinchOps analyzed 3,800+ Google reviews across 120 Houston-area IT managed service providers and found striking trends: 94% of reviews are five-star, and the top 10 providers account for 54% of all reviews.
Negative reviews cluster around three repeated problems - hidden billing, forced multi-year contracts, and service collapse after acquisition - showing that review counts alone don’t tell you whether an MSP will be the right partner when it matters. Industry fit matters for law firms, oil & gas, CPA practices, and construction companies.
CinchOps is Katy TX based, owner-led, and built for Houston businesses with 10–200 employees: no forced contracts, no surprise billing, and 73% of reviews referencing trust, integrity, and honesty. Read the full research at synchops.com and subscribe to the Houston Business Tech Report for more insights.

Today’s episode uses a Houston IT due diligence guide from CinchOps to uncover invisible six-figure risks that often hide inside business acquisitions — from nine-year-old servers and dead backup batteries to unpatched systems, licensing true-ups and single-person knowledge silos.
We walk through real scenarios and hard numbers: Gartner found 60% of acquirers see unexpected cybersecurity issues post-close, 46% of breaches affect small and mid-sized businesses, and skipping IT review can turn a $5K–$25K fractional-CTO assessment into a $90K–$190K exposure later.
The takeaway is clear: IT due diligence is a valuation issue - find these problems before signing, use assessments or escrow to protect value, and avoid inheriting costly surprises after the deal closes.
